• Sad we got EWTRTW so early on, but loved, loved, loved it regardless.
• Bipolar club was front and center on the bulletin board. Did you sign up, Blaine? Given that Blaine got his emotional high point at the start and ended in a much lower mood despite his accomplishment, this poster may be a relevant detail?
• Blaine is the poster child for why "Fake it 'til you make it" is not necessarily good therapeutic advice.
• Pretty sure they're not whitewashing Blaine. It remains to be seen why there's all the WASP-y stuff around him.
• Orchids, orchids, everywhere?
• Was Rachel trying to make duck for Brody because it's her Dads' bullet proof dinner guest dinner? I don't think she's a very diligent vegan. She reminds me of a vegetarian friend I had at Uni who was always eating sausages because she supposedly needed the protein or the iron or something. (uh huh) I don't mean that euphemistically.
• Clubs! AD&D. Blaine is one of us! Blaine dressing as a wizard holding a skull, trying to channel Kurt? Also, Blaine, baby, you are not a sidekick. (He does seem naked and vulnerable without Kurt near him, though, doesn't he? It's sad.)
• It's episode three, so like last year's episode three, Blaine gets something Kurt wanted. (then, Tony, now the student council presidency) He did it for Kurt, so his voiceover was largely self-deception.
• I love that Kurt is wearing the studded leather tie while the people in the room are trying to have creative thoughts about leather.
• I've already talked about Kurt and water symbols (shark, hippo [it has it's own display box! It came with a warning!]). Other animals! Is Isabelle's necklace a phoenix or an eagle? Either way, I take it as a good omen. Kurt and the fox tail + fox head shirt. Foxes don't necessarily indicate trickster-ness. They can evoke loyalty and devotion (foxes are monogamous), creativity, as well as following intuitive cleverness rather than overthinking/over intellectualizing. There are elements of stealth and cunning, but it's not necessarily negative. May need to investigate further.
• Blaine exists for Kurt, and he's starting to realize the full pain of that. They played the Kurt/Blaine piano theme here, too. Glad Blaine actually told someone how he was feeling. Yay for Blam.
• Very sad Britt doesn't remember dating Artie. He was the best boyfriend ever.
• I had some thoughts about Rachel, but they are largely eluding me presently. Finn's arrival did not surprise me.
• Nice nod to Andy Williams with "Blue River", wonder if that was last minute or just serendipitous.
• Why do we get two references to fascism? Blaine's debate speech and the conversation about leather belts.
• Also Albert Einstein? Isabelle's mug (here via
Looking ahead (4x04 preview)
• In the preview for 4x04 Kurt says to Blaine, "Please stop pretending that there's nothing wrong." This started at least as early as "On My Way" when Kurt asked Blaine, "Are you okay" and Blaine deflected it and then sang a song about depression.
• Kurt and Blaine's relationship has to break and be reborn, even if they don't break up next week. It's going to hurt, but it is necessary.
• What's going on with Will & Emma? Did she only encourage Will to apply for the blue ribbon thing because she doesn't believe he can get it? If so, I'm not sure they're going to be one of the couples that survives the episode.
I'll just add to this post as things occur to me.
