• Sad we got EWTRTW so early on, but loved, loved, loved it regardless.
• Bipolar club was front and center on the bulletin board. Did you sign up, Blaine? Given that Blaine got his emotional high point at the start and ended in a much lower mood despite his accomplishment, this poster may be a relevant detail?
• Blaine is the poster child for why "Fake it 'til you make it" is not necessarily good therapeutic advice.
• Pretty sure they're not whitewashing Blaine. It remains to be seen why there's all the WASP-y stuff around him.
• Orchids, orchids, everywhere?
• Was Rachel trying to make duck for Brody because it's her Dads' bullet proof dinner guest dinner? I don't think she's a very diligent vegan. She reminds me of a vegetarian friend I had at Uni who was always eating sausages because she supposedly needed the protein or the iron or something. (uh huh) I don't mean that euphemistically.
• Clubs! AD&D. Blaine is one of us! Blaine dressing as a wizard holding a skull, trying to channel Kurt? Also, Blaine, baby, you are not a sidekick. (He does seem naked and vulnerable without Kurt near him, though, doesn't he? It's sad.)
• It's episode three, so like last year's episode three, Blaine gets something Kurt wanted. (then, Tony, now the student council presidency) He did it for Kurt, so his voiceover was largely self-deception.
• I love that Kurt is wearing the studded leather tie while the people in the room are trying to have creative thoughts about leather.
• I've already talked about Kurt and water symbols (shark, hippo [it has it's own display box! It came with a warning!]). Other animals! Is Isabelle's necklace a phoenix or an eagle? Either way, I take it as a good omen. Kurt and the fox tail + fox head shirt. Foxes don't necessarily indicate trickster-ness. They can evoke loyalty and devotion (foxes are monogamous), creativity, as well as following intuitive cleverness rather than overthinking/over intellectualizing. There are elements of stealth and cunning, but it's not necessarily negative. May need to investigate further.
• Blaine exists for Kurt, and he's starting to realize the full pain of that. They played the Kurt/Blaine piano theme here, too. Glad Blaine actually told someone how he was feeling. Yay for Blam.
• Very sad Britt doesn't remember dating Artie. He was the best boyfriend ever.
• I had some thoughts about Rachel, but they are largely eluding me presently. Finn's arrival did not surprise me.
• Nice nod to Andy Williams with "Blue River", wonder if that was last minute or just serendipitous.
• Why do we get two references to fascism? Blaine's debate speech and the conversation about leather belts.
• Also Albert Einstein? Isabelle's mug (here via
Looking ahead (4x04 preview)
• In the preview for 4x04 Kurt says to Blaine, "Please stop pretending that there's nothing wrong." This started at least as early as "On My Way" when Kurt asked Blaine, "Are you okay" and Blaine deflected it and then sang a song about depression.
• Kurt and Blaine's relationship has to break and be reborn, even if they don't break up next week. It's going to hurt, but it is necessary.
• What's going on with Will & Emma? Did she only encourage Will to apply for the blue ribbon thing because she doesn't believe he can get it? If so, I'm not sure they're going to be one of the couples that survives the episode.
I'll just add to this post as things occur to me.

Kurt's fox outfit made me think of the fox in the hen house. The designer who interrupted his and Isabelle's heart-to-heart certainly seemed to take him that way. And I'm not sure Isabelle's phoenix aspirations are going to be a good thing. She might be the perfect mentor, as she seems (I hope so; she's cute). But maybe she'll get jealous and burn him to rebirth her own career.
The more they try to make Rachel up as a sexpot, the more she bores me. Same problem I've got with all the new kids: none of them are weird!
Orchids -- I noticed them, too. Orchids = sex, but I need another data point to make something of it.
Duck is supposed to be an aphrodisiac.

Oh, what are you seeing? I had wondered if their friendship might get a little confusing for Rachel--perhaps both of them--given the romantic elements we seem to be getting, but I'm not sure Glee would go there. Plus there's Brody (though I don't expect that's going to go well for Rachel).
Rachel as sexpot feels like something that will backfire on her (it has in the past anyway, usually leading to conflict with Finn). She is less interesting when she embraces this particular version of femininity (or would it be a stereotype), but she's young and attractive, so I can see how she would enjoy the sense of power, especially with a guy like Brody focusing his attention on her. Like Kurt, Rachel hasn't had many moments in her life where she's felt like an object of desire.
Kurt's fox outfit
I saw on fashionofglee that it's actually a wolf on the shirt. So he's combining wolf and fox. A wolf seems complicated. There's an element of teamwork there, but there's also aggression and something feral. Perhaps it ties in with the shark teeth? Kurt is on the offensive in New York; he's read Sun Tzu, he's aiming for victory now, not just survival.
I love Isabelle too, she's adorable and sweet and brings out a vulnerability* and nurturing aspect of Kurt that I just adore. But I think you are right to be concerned. That phoenix might not be a good thing for Kurt. Fire is a dangerous thing. Powerful, but dangerous, and it seems like Isabelle does not have good interpersonal boundaries. She could end up burning Kurt out. And, yeah, at some point the office politics are going to be a problem for Kurt, and I don't know how skillful he will be, having been a person who has isolated himself so much from human social/political behaviour. The others aren't going to be keen to see Kurt gaining influence and power in their space. Maybe these will be his main conflicts for the season? I still think he and Blaine are going to be okay.
Orchids... Duck
And back to Rachel and sex! I did not know this about duck. The letters outside the kitchen window are S-E-? That is, you can't make out the next letter clearly. I think it's a W, but at a glance it looks like it could be an X. They don't do these set details by accident I don't think.
Also, is it just me, or are there more flowers in general? Isabelle's office and the couture vault all have flowers too. We don't see that many at McKinley except in Emma's office. Could there be something there? I'm probably overthinking.
Oh, also, while I'm babbling at you. I can't remember who was talking about it on tumblr, but someone noted that Rachel and Kurt seems to be drinking a lot (not necessarily alcohol, just drinking) and I am thinking again about Lethe and forgetfulness and the coming troubles with Blaine and Rachel rejecting Finn.
And I'm out for now. :) I still have some thoughts about Sam and Blaine and passing and erasure, but I don't feel qualified to address them terribly well.

* I'm still trying to articulate this. It's like he's safe enough to let down his guard and reveal a more genuine self-confidence rather than the defensive, more arrogant show he had to put on at McKinley. Don't know if this makes sense. I'm still processing it, it's something both subtle and compelling.
