A few things about 4x02
Just jotting these down before I forget.
• Since I'm paying more attention to French words on Glee, it's worth noting that Stoner Brett exclaims, "J'accuse!" at ND at the assembly after Kitty yells out that they are lip-syncing. What class was he in with Kurt? Was it French or English?
• Blaine is the Observer, the straight man, the only adult in the room. I love everything about his natural leadership abilities, particularly that he doesn't flaunt them or grandstand. He's just there, stepping in where he has to and paying attention. Blaine also questions his reality consistently.
• I think at one point during "Boys/Boyfriends" Brittany believed Blaine wanted to be her boyfriend and she was down with that. Also I think Blaine realized Artie might like to be his boyfriend, too.
• I feel like Tina was the only one singing "3" who knew what it was about. I think she was playing with the God Squad boys.
• Kiki. <3 Also the enormous coffee.
• Rachel in the red lipstick made me think of the Sad Clown Hooker makeover. After Kurt said, "Then give her sexy..." I am wondering to what degree "Oops, I Did it Again" is his fault--at least conceptually.
• Britt and Rachel both tell us NY is heaven.
• Jake got a bees-in-ears moment in 4x01 when he looked at the Glee club list and didn't see his name. Marley got one in 4x02 after Kitty revealed she's "dating" Jake.
• The Kicker poster in the bleachers made me think of S1 Kurt. I don't understand the "Axe 'Em" poster though. The posters are fun.
• Brad!
• Sam's blond is from a bottle. We're reminded he's dyslexic, but did he misspell 'here' as 'hear' from Britt's sake? (Is that an error an actual dyslexic would make?)
• Jake is not Puck. He may be a bad boy womanizer with manly urges to hit things, but he has a code of (something like) chivalry, and he likes being an artist. He also takes pride in himself and his own efforts.
• Marley is sweet and sincere, which are nice traits, but not enough to make her interesting to me yet.
• The adults suck. Poor Brittany. Thankfully she has Sam and Blaine looking out for her.
• Kurt and Blaine's piano theme plays during Puck's scene with Jake.
• "Oops" was about Brody maybe.
• Kurt is waaaay too sanguine about everything right now. And as adorable as Happy!Kurt is, something's going to give. Or maybe not. Maybe he'll have a good period of things working. But narratives need bumps to be interesting. I wonder what his will be, 4x04 spec notwithstanding.
• We get two mentions of crime in Kurt & Rachel's neighborhood. Random setting detail or foreshadowing?
• (I'm forgetting something)
• Kurt & Rachel being adorable bumpkins with their New York Domino's pizza. <3

LOL new headcanon!
Rachel in the red lipstick made me think of the Sad Clown Hooker makeover. After Kurt said, "Then give her sexy..." I am wondering to what degree "Oops, I Did it Again" is his fault--at least conceptually.
Hahahaha I never even thought of that! I can't wait to see what happens in the makeover episode. :D
Jake got a bees-in-ears moment in 4x01 when he looked at the Glee club list and didn't see his name. Marley got one in 4x02 after Kitty revealed she's "dating" Jake.
I assume you're talking about sound effects? I'll have to pay attention to that on the rewatch. Does this indicate what's most important to these two characters? (Relationships and performance?) Or does it indicate what is humiliating for them? (Rejection?)
Sam's blond is from a bottle. We're reminded he's dyslexic, but did he misspell 'here' as 'hear' from Britt's sake? (Is that an error an actual dyslexic would make?)
That is not a dyslexic type error (putting letters in the wrong order) but I think it's generally harder for dyslexic people to learn to spell, because it's harder to read. So he's probably a bad speller in general.
Kurt and Blaine's piano theme plays during Puck's scene with Jake.
It's not Kurt and Blaine's theme. It was also used when Will and Emma were "playing house" in season one, and when Rachel and Finn first kissed I think, among other times.

Right! When Holly sang "Conjunction Junction". I remember now.
I assume you're talking about sound effects?
Yes. I don't recall Glee using that sound effect before. I think you're right about it indicating what's perhaps most important. Jake could be performance, or just recognition & respect more generally. He tells us how hard he worked on his song. Marley seems to want to fix Jake by connecting with him on a more sincere level, so yeah, relationship, I guess. She's looking for intimacy more than status I think?
It's not Kurt and Blaine's theme...
I know the piece you mean, and it's really lovely, and has haunted me from the Pilot because it sounds so familiar to me, but it's not the same as the piece Kurt and Blaine get in their scenes.
I'm pretty sure what I'm calling Kurt and Blaine's theme first plays in NBK when they run down the hall together. We hear it when Blaine transfers, and also when Kurt opens his NYADA letter with his Dad (I assumed the music is a stand-in for Blaine since Blaine is home with his eye injury). I'm not sure about other Kurt & Blaine instances. I think there must be at least one other time. But I'm pretty sure these are two different themes. I really miss the one from season 1. It was lovely. (I wish we had names for these pieces; it'd be easier to talk about them!)
