I'm pretty ambivalent about vampire stories too, so I wanted to try to do something a little bit different with this prompt, move away from the supernatural and more into a speculative/sci fi-ish arena. I'm really glad that worked for you!

It's tempting to explore more here, but, yeah, I can't realistically look at that right now. I wish I could though! I'm just such a slow writer. Maybe once I get other things done, I can return to this. :) Thanks very much for reading and the kind comments.
